Day 197

Psalm 136, Psalm 146, Psalm 147, Psalm 148, Psalm 149, Psalm 150

Todd McCabe, Governing Board
Specifically Psalm 136:1

“Give thanks to the Lord for he is good/His love endures forever.”
Joy. Thankfulness. Worship. Identity. Never failing, never changing, unending Love. These are the thoughts that filled my heart the first time I read this verse.
I know it is so important to me to take time to give thanks to a good and unchanging God, but lately I am the poster-boy of busyness and my mind and hands are overflowing with tasks needing to be done, all in the name of noble goals and purposes.  So these simple truths become a call to action, and I have so much to be thankful for even in the midst of irksome tasks and weighty responsibilities.

I’m spending my summer in a wonderful environment where I am surrounded every day by natural beauty and power that daily testifies to the majesty of our Creator. Yet I still allow every day cares and duties to come between me and Him—cares and duties that allow me to take Him for granted.

Lord, I thank you for the richly-layered simplicity of your Word and for the gentle nudge of the Holy Spirit that calls me to heed it.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
